It could be said that Gian Marco Montesano’s exhibition in Trento is a homecoming for Christmas: with his solo exhibition Alpensinfonie, open from December 16 at the Raffaelli Art Studio, the artist pays tribute to the mountain environment and its inhabitants.
Wildlife and sporting achievements are the protagonists of the peaks painted by Montesano in his new series of works, created specifically for the exhibition, which anticipates the highly anticipated 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics and is open to visitors during the major event. The Straussian musical suggestion, which gives the exhibition its title, evokes the landscapes painted on canvas by the artist, which appear to be suspended between reality and imagination, describing dreamlike atmospheres that follow one another between the oscillations and peaks of the ridges. In addition to large canvases, a series of smaller works embellished with antique Black Forest frames, revisiting the traditional Alpine style, are also be on display. What Montesano seems to suggest in his work is an invitation to maintain harmony between the perception of the wild and unspoiled mountain and the challenges, all human, presented by alpine sports; to know how to balance the memories of a past that appears joyful and nostalgic at the same time, and a present to be captured in a photograph before it slips away; to recognize, in the geographies of art, the forms and changes of nature.
