The invented history

KINDL - Centre for Contemporary Art, Berlin

13 September 2020 - 21 February 2021

he exhibition “The Invented History” displays the works of many artists, including Andrew Gilbert, and examines the need to critically question historical narratives. History is no longer viewed as a mere collection of dates and facts, instead there is a growing awareness that historiography must always be interpreted also under the political auspices of its “authors”. The artists in the exhibition track down previously concealed or suppressed historical phenomena, view history through the filter of their own biography, and thus work on a critical historiography in contrast to existing systems of rules. The exhibition is edited by Kathrin Becker and it takes place as part of Berlin Art Week (9-13 September 2020).
