Laurina Paperina

“The sleep of reason produces monsters” is the third solo exhibition by Laurina Paperina at the Studio d’Arte Raffaelli in Trento: after “New Pollution” in 2012, which marked the artist’s spamming debut and “Doomsday” of 2016 in which large canvases have occupied two floors of the gallery following the apocalyptic theme of the Last Judgement, Laurina Paperina is ready to deal with a new dimension which marks an important evolution of her artistic path. The thematic core of the exhibition focus on Goya’s masterpiece of the same name and the reworking of a stormy sturm-und-drang immersed in both – artistic and non-artistic contemporary worlds where Laurina Paperina’s inspiration move as autonomous characters. The disruptive novelty of the artist’s new works is linked with the use of augmented reality app ARIA which allows paintings to become alive, and move in the air by detaching themselves from the borders of the work. Painting, drawing and animation are all Laurina Paperina’s favorite mediums, merged and mixed in her unique and surprising works, where the discoveries and narrative possibilities intersect endlessly and eventually give the rise to a virtual visual world that integrates the physical reality in parallel. The exhibition includes a selection of unseen sculptures; the exclusive limited edition of merchandising which transforms into live performance thanks to ARIA (AR app) as well as a catalogue which also supports AR function.
