Marco Lodola

The art of goal

World Cup

A long luminous trail starts from the Galeries Lafayette, in the center of Doha in the Katara district, and reaches the Khalifa Stadium, for about 7 kilometers in order to accompany the public towards the match. Marco Lodola lights up the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and lines up his players with improbable colours. The exhibition, born from an idea of the Avangart Group and its founders Nicolò Giovine and Sebastiano Pepe, combines the current theme of football together with music, art and retail.
The purpose of this work is to reflect tin he values of the Katara Cultural Village. Among the founders and major exponents of the Nuovo Futurismo movement, Marco Lodola is one of the most famous and influential contemporary Italian artists, standing out for his distinct pop style that blends art, design, film and music.
The best expression of his work lies in the urban furnishings and large decorative interventions in space, all united by a very precise idea, namely that light and color will determine a new spatiality capable of isolating the image from the background. In fact, darkness remains around, and in the darkness his three-dimensional and projecting sculptures stand out. Precisely because of this very precise characteristic, i.e. determining new spaces through the work, Marco Lodola has often been commissioned to conceive and create large installations for prestigious brands, an expression of Made in Italy in the world, and he has also collaborated with important international maisons. Sport, music, fashion are some of the most frequent areas of application of his public works. In 2005 he designed the pink jersey of the Giro d’Italia, then in 2009 his works were at the Italian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale in whose collateral exhibitions he will participate again in 2011 with a large installation at the Ca’ d’Oro and in 2019 by drawing the gigantic sailor who greets traveling ships at the Arsenale. In 2001, he customized a Ducati 996 and he also was several times at the
Sanremo Festival to decorate the facade of the Ariston Theater where Italian singers and international stars performed. Music is more than a passion: an iron Beatles makes Abbey Road recross four luminous sculptures with unmistakable shapes, they are precisely them in Fab Four and collaborates with Andrea Bocelli at the Theater of Silence with a phantasmagorical scenography right where the orchestra is. Between 2020 and 2021 he enters the secular temple of classical art, the Uffizi Museum in Florence, and carries out an extraordinary international campaign for setting up Christian Dior’s windows: the sign is confirmed as pop, however, in contact with French fashion, it takes on a new elegance, in some ways unexpected. Few Italian artists can be said to be so famous, esteemed and appreciated and the reason is simple: Lodola was always true and authentic to himself and has never done anything else. Above all the world recognizes his sincerity and originality.
