About
Willy Verginer
Nasce nel 1957 a Bressanone
Willy Verginer was born in 1957, in Bressanone. He studied painting at Ortisei Art Institute and then he dedicated himself to wood sculpture, working in different laboratories in Val Gardena. In the 80s he began to leave behind conventional schemes and methods. He displayed abstract wood artworks in one of his first personal exhibition at “Galleria Sapatia”, in Bolzano. In 2005 Verginer decided to totally change his style, as we could see in the show at the gallery “Castello di Trento”: his plastic language became very original due to the combination of carving and acrylic painting. His exhibitions take place in different Italian cities, such as Vicenza, Milan and Bergamo, but also outside his home- country, for example in Holland and Belgium. In 2011 he was invited to the “Biennale” of Venice in order to represent his region, Trentino Alto Adige, and he also took part in the “Biennale Italia-Cina” at “Villa Reale” in Monza. He was invited to participate in the first show of Italian contemporary wood sculpture at the Civic Gallery of Trento. During his last years, Verginer focused his work on the environmental subject and in 2017 he displayed a huge art installation at Wasserman Projects in Detroit, Michigan.
